2019 Annual Meeting Info

The 2019 Annual Meeting, held on March 23, 2019 at Farmington High School, 10 Montieth Drive, Farmington, CT, was highlighted by the presence of Dr. Daniel S. Adler, Associate Professor of Graduate Studies in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Connecticut, as alluded to in the Annual Meeting Flyer which can be viewed by clicking 2019 Meeting Flyer.

Dr. Adler's talk was interesting, touching on a variety of topics relating to both environmental and geologic contexts to hominim occupation. This area is, perhaps surprisingly, the richest sources of hominim skeletal remains outside of Africa. The area within which Dr. Alder and his associates worked has an active geologic history, including floods, tectonic movement, and volcanic eruptions, resulting in a complex stratigraphic layout. Hunting/gathering, rather than farming, is the most frequently seen activity, though how the hominim residents (esp. Neanderthal and Homo Spiens) foraged, moved about and socially interacted varied significantly. Moreover, there is evidence of interbreeding between Homo sapiens, Neanderthal and Denovisian. (An interesting article on Denovisians can be found in this Denisovans & Neanderthals article from Nature.

There are a number of online references to Dr. Adler's archaeological work in this area. For those interested in reading them, it's suggested that you click Adler References.
