2011 Annual Meeting Info

In memory of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, FOSA's 2011 Annual Meeting, held on January 29 at the Smith Middle School in Glastonbury CT, was highlighted by Archaeologist John H. Jameson, RPA, senior archaeologist and Program Lead, Technical Assistance and Partnerships, for the Southeast Archeological Center, U.S. National Park Service. You can access its web site by clicking Southeast Archaeological Center.

Mr. Jameson's presentation "Archaeology at Two American Civil War Prisoner-of-War Sites in Georgia" focused on life and conditions at Andersonville and Fort Pulaski. He went on to describe how archaeological surveys of these two sites have helped to fill in major gaps in historical records.

He also touched upon the importance of the accuracy of artistic interpretations of historic events. The presence of Civil War era re-enactors and exhibits enhanced the day.

This year's featured author, FOSA member Roy Manstan, co-author of "TURTLE: David Bushnell's Revolutionary Vessel", was present for a Book Signing.
