2005 Annual Meeting Info

The 2005 meeting was held on January 29 at the Smith Middle School, 216 Addison Road, Glastonbury, CT.

The guest speaker was Dr. Douglas Owsley, Forensic Anthropologist and Curator for the Division of Physical Anthropology of the Nation Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution. The title of his talk was, "The Forensics of Identifying the Confederate Sailors of the C.S.S. Hunley".

He described how it was possible to make forensic identification of the human skeletal remains of the crewmen excavated from the C.S.S. Hunley", a Civil War submarine raised from the waters of Charleston Harbor. Included in this talk, he will describe how he, CT State Archaeologist Dr. Nick Bellantoni and others solved the mystery of whether one of the skeletons in the Hunley was that of a Private Chamberlain ... a native of Killingly, CT and a member of the Union army.
