2004 Annual Meeting Info

The 2004 meeting was held on January 24 at Glastonbury High School, 330 Hubbard Street, Glastonbury, CT.

The guest speaker was Dr. Douglas Charles, Wesleyan University Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology. The tile of this talk was, "Mysteries of the Mounds: Symbolic Representations of Hopewell Culture from West Central Illinois."

The talk focused on Illinois River Valley manifestations of Hopewell culture, in the timeframe of ca. 100 BC - 300 AD. Centered in the Midwest, Hopewell is best known for its large geometric earthworks in Ohio, mounds in Illinois, Tennessee and other areas, and for a widespread exchange network featuring materials such as obsidian, copper, and artifacts made from these materials.

As part of the business portion of the meeting, Leanne Kennedy Harty and June Cooke were presented with the first FOSA Certificates of Appreciation awarded. Facsimilies of Leanne's and June's certificates can be viewed by clicking .
